(Jan 23, 2012) is a festival that traditionally begins on the first day of the first month in the Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day.
This year it lands on January 23 2011, which is New Year’s Day on the Chinese calendar. It is tradition that windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper cut outs with themes of “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity.” In addition, people also decorate their home with beautiful red Chinese knots, red lanterns, or imitation red Chinese firecrackers. (February 14) is an annual holiday celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering candy or chocolate, and sending valentine cards.
The symbols that are associated with Valentine’s Day include heart shapes, cupids, or doves. Exchanging gifts and cards became a common manner between friends, lovers, or even classmates. This happens typically in the United States, where most elementary schools encourage children to decorate classrooms, exchange cards, and eat sweets. These valentine cards exchanged between classmates often times mention what they appreciate about each other. The colors that are associated with this holiday are typically red, pink, or purple.
(March 17) is a religious holiday named after Saint Patrick, one of the most commonly recognized patron saints of Ireland. It began purely as a Catholic Holiday and soon became a celebratory day that is part of Ireland’s culture. In every year since 1991, the President or the Congress proclaimed March as Irish-American Heritage Month due to St. Patrick’s Day.

(April 8, 2012) is a time of springtime festivities and religious holidays. In Christian countries Easter is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. Some Easter traditions or symbols are the Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility, and colored Easter eggs, painted with bright and vibrant colors to represent the sunlight of spring and rebirth.
During this holiday, Easter eggs are used in Easter-egg rolling contests, Easter egg hunts, and sometimes the eggs were even given as gifts. The eggs could even be colored and etched with various designs then exchanged by lovers or romantic admirers, very much similar to Valentines Day traditions. (July 4), or also known as Independence Day, is a national holiday in the United States celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. Every year on July 4th people around the United States enjoy firework shows, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, family gatherings, political speeches, and many other events that celebrate the history, government, and traditions of the country. Since this holiday happens during the summer, events typically happen outdoors where people could enjoy the warm weather.
On this day, many people wear the colors red, white, and blue as these are the colors of the American flag. (October 31) is an annual holiday that commonly includes activities such as trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving jack-o’-lanterns, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films. On this day, many home owners decorate the exterior and interior of their dwellings in order to attract trick-o’-treaters to dare walk up to their door steps and ask for sweets.

(November 22, 2012) is a holiday that we celebrate and give thanks for a bountiful harvest. It is primarily celebrated in the United States and Canada, and had religious underlying elements to the origin of the holiday. People generally have two days off of work. The holiday happens on the fourth Thursday of November of every year. At this time, people travel back to see their family and enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner complete with typical Thanksgiving dishes such as turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, pumpkin pie, and many other delicious Thanksgiving food. Since Thanksgiving lands in the fall season, many decorative items are fall or harvest themed, such as fall leaves, pumpkins, gourds, corn, turkey, and pilgrims.
(December 25) is perhaps the most celebrated and popular holiday in our nation and around the world. Many people travel back home and spend this holiday with family members and friends. On the day of Christmas, presents are placed under Christmas trees or in stockings ready for children in the morning.
